Science for All Creating an LGBTQ+ Inclusive Science Curriculum

Did you know that LGBTQ+ people are about 20% less likely to pursue a career in STEM fields than should be expected? Or that LGBTQ+ STEM students are significantly more likely to drop out of STEM programs before receiving their degrees? Join us to explore strategies for ensuring that your STEM curriculum is inclusive of LGBTQ+ students. In the workshop, you’ll learn about contributions to science made by LGBTQ+ scientists throughout history. You’ll learn how you can use STEM lessons to challenge implicit bias around sexual orientation and gender by exploring a variety of reproductive strategies and sexual behaviors in the animal kingdom. You’ll walk away with a list of LGBTQ+ friendly readings for STEM classes for all ages. And you’ll learn practical steps that you can take to ensure that your LGBTQ+ students can see themselves reflected in your lessons.
